What is the difference between a drum unit and a toner cartridge?
Toner is the powder, and the drum is the part that transfers it to the page. A drum lasts for several toner cartridges: GREENBOX lists 12 drum and imaging units, from $25.99.
Brother, Xerox, Lexmark and Dell build many printers with the drum as its own part. The printer tells you when the drum is due, usually with a message that names it. Replacing the toner will not clear that message.
