Compatible, remanufactured and original cartridges

Three words on cartridge boxes, what each one means, and which kinds GREENBOX makes.

Three kinds of cartridge fit the same slot in your printer. The box tells you which one you hold, in one word. Here is what each word means.

What is a compatible cartridge?

A compatible cartridge is a new cartridge built by a company other than the printer brand to fit the same printer. GREENBOX has 127 compatible cartridges out of 189.

Most of our toner is compatible: 112 toner cartridges are new builds.

What is a remanufactured cartridge?

A remanufactured cartridge starts as a used original and gets a cleaning and a refill. GREENBOX has 58 remanufactured cartridges, 14 of them ink.

Ink cartridges for HP and Canon home printers are the classic case. The print head sits on the cartridge itself, so the cartridge is rebuilt on the original body. That is why our 63XL, 61XL and 245 carry the word Remanufactured.

The warranty on the printer

People ask this before their first third-party cartridge. In the United States the rule on warranties and replacement parts fits in a short quote.

No warrantor may condition the continued validity of a warranty on the use of only authorized repair service and/or authorized replacement parts for non-warranty service and maintenance

Code of Federal Regulations, 16 CFR 700.10, Prohibited tying, read 11 October 2026

That is the federal rule on tying. It is about the warranty on the printer. It does not make any cartridge fit any printer, so the first check is still the list of printer models the cartridge fits.

How to tell which one you have

  • The word Compatible or Remanufactured is part of every GREENBOX cartridge name.
  • The same word sits beside the codes the cartridge replaces.
  • Each cartridge names the printer models it fits. If yours is among them, you have the right one.
